Final Product Goals

A professional quality web site is one that combines form with function. A site should be visually compelling and it should have high quality information that is easily accessible.

This will be the checklist we will use to review your web site. Please use it to verify that your site is the best it can be:

GOAL 1: Satisfy the requirements of this course.
  • Does your site have at least 2 - 3 classroom activities?
  • Is technology integrated into the classroom activities?
  • Do these activities demonstrate gender/diversity awareness in that they are inclusive for all cultures and genders?

    GOAL 2: Professional user interface.

  • Check for having left instructions from the template on your site that are visible to viewers. Good examples of sites that used the templates properly are: http://teachertech.bu.edu/kdesilva/lessons/piteach.htm http://teachertech.bu.edu/jgopan/lessons/uniform1.htm
  • Does your site have a consistent look and feel? Would a user be certain they are still on the same web site?
  • Check your site for usability. Would another teacher or student be able to use your lesson plans or learn from your activity sheets without personal instructions from you?
  • Check your e-mail address currently listed on your page. Is it the address that you currently use? Do not list an e-mail address if you don't check it regularly.
  • Check your site on different platforms and browsers, ie. Mac vs. PC, Netscape vs. Internet Explorer. It may not look the way you intended!
  • Check your site for ease of readability. Make sure there is a high level of contrast between background and text.
  • Check to see that you have used graphics judiciously. How fast do they load? If it is an animated graphic consider creating a loop where it only moves approximately 5 times and then remains still.
  • Check for broken tags in your HTML that appear in your site.
    Example: Your page reads >/b> in the middle of it.
  • Check your quizzes to make sure there is one way to submit the answer to a question. Example: Some quizzes used both a radio button and a drop down menu for the same question when only one format should be used.

    GOAL 3: Your site is easy to navigate.

  • Check your site navigation. When someone is on one of your pages is there a way for them to get back to your site? Can they get back to the previous page without using the back button?
  • Do you include a site menu on each page for easy navigation? Good example: http://teachertech.bu.edu/jrobinson/lessons/index.htm.
  • Check to make sure the navigation is consistent on your site. People want to become familiar with getting around your site. Example: Don't combine drop down lists with links.

    GOAL 4: 100% of links are functioning and relevant.

  • Check all of the links on your site from every single page. Do all internal and external links work? Do all the links go where they are supposed to be?
  • Check your page for broken image/graphics links. Do images/graphics not appear where they are supposed to be?
  • Check your site for links to pages with no information on them. If there is no information either add some or take off the link.
  • Take off "dead" links - links that do not point to anything.
  • Check your resources/links page. Have you added descriptions so that people visiting your site know basic information about the site they are about to visit?Good examples are:

  • Check your relative links. Make sure the link brings you to the proper place on the document. Likewise, if you leave the page and come back make sure the link takes you to where you left off.
  • Check your relative links. Would it be more user friendly to create separate pages instead?
  • Check links to PowerPoint presentations. PowerPoint presentations generally take a long time to load and often do not contain a lot of information. Is the content of your presentation useful for teachers and students? Can the presentation be understood without you? How long is the load time?
